Charity does begin at home. Among the values taught to us at home is hygiene. Wherever we went or did, mom would always check on us and see how well we fared on the hygiene sector. Most of us can bear witness of how far those lessons have gone in molding us to be who we are. If we are aware of the consequences of untidiness, it is because of the values taught to us at the tender ages of childhood.
Failure to comply with the rules of hygiene will only lead to the spread of serious diseases. It can be so devastating when we know what we are supposed to do but we act like we don’t know. It has been said times without number that prevention is better than cure. The generations to come will pay homage to our graves if we stand for the prevention of diseases through hygiene.
Common diseases caused by poor hygiene
As much as possible, our primary focus should be on our children. These inno
cent angels know absolutely nothing about taking care of their health by practicing hygiene. They need to be sensitized by engaging them in fun and educative activities. Here are some of the commonest diseases they need to be warned about;
The spread of cholera is almost as instant as the snap of a finger. Also, preventing it is not as hard. Washing our hands with medicated soap and clean water should be top on the list. Also, washing fruit thoroughly with clean running water is another way of keeping cholera at bay.
It’s still hard for some of us to believe that influenza is caused by unhygienic practices. These germs are transferred in many ways and are entirely unpredictable. We need to be equally wise and ensure that our general surroundings are clean.
We are advised to take plenty of water to aid in all the physiological body functions. The kind of water we drink is enough to either give us life or send us to our early graves. We must ensure that the water we take is purified and is safe for drinking.
This is one way through which the body releases harmful toxins. We ingest them sometimes without knowing and sometimes we are fully aware. The body is trained in such a way that it gets rid of all potentially harmful organisms when ingested.
How to maintain high standards of hygiene
The state of hygiene is supposed to be unquestionable in all homes. Germs and other forms of bacteria thrive through irresponsible handling of food stuff. Make sure that your home is surrounded by all the cleaning agents you can think of. From the air, you breathe down to the very floor on which you walk. You can’t see the disease-causing organisms, but it’s possible to prevent them.
Whenever there has been a spillage or mess of any kind, clean it up immediately. Letting it stay on for too long could lead to other major problems for all inhabitants of the home. Hard as it may be to some of us, you will come to appreciate this tip later on.
